Hampstead Heath

The heath provides the perfect varied landscape to study clouds, water, distant views and people, Hampstead Heath has a strong history of artistic practice with the varied terrain, changing light, and expansive views made it a popular subject for landscape painters.

I have lived by Hampstead Heath for the past 5 years and found it to be a haven in an otherwise busy and often chaotic city life. The Heath has strong associations with painting and artists, particularly from the 18th and 19th centuries onwards. One of the most notable artists connected to the Heath is John Constable (1776–1837), who lived nearby from 1819.
